Ok, real talk. Oliver is the usual photographer of outfit photos on this blog and giving direction is not one of his strengths. The idea of making something for him was maybe encouraged by my secret desire for him to understand how freaking awkward it can be. Well, apparently he's a supermodel and didn't need direction. I mean, just look at that face he's giving.
Enough bitching. Let's talk pants.
The pattern is Thread Theory's Jedediah and they are delicious. I adore men's wear and have been inspired to make some since discovering Taylor's blog. Plus I guess there's those selfless, altruistic reasons. (Lies. I just wanted brownie points).
The Jedediah pattern was an easy choice based on all of the reasons Andrea gives, as well as seeing other beautiful versions, some of which you can see here. I hope Thread Theory create a Flickr group (I couldn't find one?) because I find them useful when planning a project. I simply can not navigate PatternReview and I used to work in IT. Maybe it's all of those oranges and blues fighting for my attention. Seriously. Someone give me a tutorial.
Dare I say, I had so much fun making these. The sew-along was a delight, the pattern was a breeze (every notch matched up!), my zip looks pretty damn pro, and it was a dream fitting someone who is more 'standard sized' than me.
I would say they are a touch smaller than RTW pants. I cut a 32 and the only (!) alteration was to add ease in the front. Also, RTW pants never fit Oli's teeny butt and these do perfectly. Just something to keep in mind if you're sewing for someone with more junk in their trunk, but I'm sure that would be easy to alter thanks to the yoke.
This is the wrong side of a dark denim I got from the Fabric Store. Sturdy. Lovely.
Next time I'll use a lighter weight fabric because my poor machine was crushed with the strength of this denim. You can see in some of the bulkier places - like the zipper and the waistband - she couldn't even cope to topstitch a neat line. Poor thing.
And just because we can't truly objectify my boyfriend without a surprised nymph photo:
Yep. That's now on the internet. I wonder how many brownie points I have left.
